Mark Your Calendar: The Final Two Weeks of October

The calendar stays full as October winds down. The Monument Cemetery Walk returns Saturday, Oct. 24, a history-focused walking event hosted by the Town of Monument, per the town's community events page. Families have two more weekends of fall fun at the Colorado Pumpkin Patch at Colorado Kids Ranch (2205 E. Highway 105), open through Oct. 31 with hayrides, a petting zoo, and pumpkins. And Safe Trick or Treat returns Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. along 2nd Street, Limbach Park, and the downtown shops, a free community favorite organized by Downtown Monument Businesses and the Tri-Lakes Chamber, per The Gazette.

Also on the calendar: the Tri-Lakes Community & Business Expo, presented by the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce, takes over the Tri-Lakes YMCA on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Out at the club, The Country Club at Woodmoor's October social calendar includes Thursday dinners from 5 p.m. and a five-course wine dinner on Friday, Oct. 24 with Stonestreet wines, per the club's October newsletter. The full calendar lives on townofmonument.org and woodmoor.org.

The Home Stretch to Monument's Nov. 3 Election

Monument's municipal election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, coordinated with El Paso County, and ballots are in voters' hands. The mayoral race pairs Laura Kronick against Kenneth Kimple; Dan DeBoo runs for the District 1 seat, Marco P. Fiorito for District 2, and Alex Valderrama and Scott Gilson compete for the at-large seat, per the town's elections page. Mayor candidate Laura Kronick drew a fresh spotlight this week with The Monument Independent's Oct. 17 profile of a council member who reads the budget line by line.

Also on the ballot is the use-tax measure that would raise the tax on construction and building materials from 2% to 3.5%, projected to generate about $2.27 million a year for stormwater, streets, bridges, and sidewalks; it does not affect sales tax, per Colorado Politics and The Gazette. Check the town's elections page for drop-off and polling details before Nov. 3.

Town Council Tonight; the 2040 Plan Vote Moves to Nov. 2

The Town Council holds its next regular meeting tonight, Monday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Monument Town Hall (645 Beacon Lite Road). Per the council's Oct. 5 meeting recap, the agenda was expected to include a presentation from Silver Key Senior Services and a resolution supporting the town's use-tax ballot measure. Agendas and meeting materials are posted on the town's CivicClerk portal.

Also on the town's agenda: adoption of the Monument 2040 Comprehensive Plan and Downtown Master Plan has been pushed back four weeks, with the council vote now set for Monday, Nov. 2 after the Planning Commission's continued public hearing Oct. 14, per The Monument Independent. The plan update has run through community open houses and public comment sessions all fall, and the Nov. 2 session is the public's chance to see where it lands before ballots close the next day.

Lewis-Palmer D38: Board Meets Tonight, and Year-End Finances

The Lewis-Palmer D38 Board of Education holds its regular meeting tonight, Monday, Oct. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Learning Center at the district administration building (146 N. Jefferson St.), live-streamed on the district's YouTube channel, per Our Community News' October calendar. Monument Academy, the district's charter school, was scheduled to present its annual report to the board at this month's meeting after closing 2025-26 with about a $288,000 surplus, per The Monument Independent.

And the district's new Home School Enrichment Academy (HSEA) building opened on schedule this month. Construction ran ahead of plan, and the facility, built between the former Grace Best Elementary site and the district offices, is serving homeschool K-12 families this 2026-27 school year, per Our Community News and FOX21 News.

Around Woodmoor: WIA Board Meets Oct. 28, Fiber Continues

The Woodmoor Improvement Association board holds its October meeting Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Woodmoor Barn Community Center, 1691 Woodmoor Dr., per Our Community News. At its Sept. 23 meeting the board heard the latest from Force Broadband on its fiber-optic build-out through the community's open spaces; after conduit work in South Woodmoor this summer, the locally owned and veteran-owned provider is working to bring fiber to residents. Resident newsletters and the events calendar live at woodmoor.org/events.

And in the category of local color: Our Community News' Oct. 12 edition spotted five wild turkeys on Fairplay Drive on Oct. 7, "looking for a place to hide before Thanksgiving," per OCN's photo feature. The Woodmoor South turkey tradition is alive and well as the holiday approaches.

Fall on the Trails and Around Town

Late October is peak color season in Woodmoor, and the trails are at their best. The Santa Fe Trailhead at 3rd Street offers parking and picnic tables with direct access to the Santa Fe Trail, and the Monument Preserve on Schilling Avenue threads trails through ponderosa pine forest. The roughly 17.9-mile New Santa Fe Regional Trail runs from Greenland Open Space near Larkspur to the Edmondson Trailhead in Colorado Springs, and Fox Run Regional Park's trails around Aspen Lake are a short drive away.

Close to home, Goat Patch Brewing Monument at 1756 Lake Woodmoor Drive remains the neighborhood gathering spot, joined by Wesley Owens Coffee at 1744 Lake Woodmoor Drive, Coffee Cup Cafe at 251 Front Street, and Arlene's Beans at 366 2nd Street downtown. For dinner, La Casa Fiesta at 230 Front Street, The Bistro on 2nd at 65 2nd Street, Rosie's Diner at 411 CO-105, and Papa Bear Pizza at 243 Washington Street round out the local lineup.

Monument Market Snapshot: Third Week of October 2026

Monument's market keeps carrying more inventory than a year ago, and measurements vary by source. Ashford Realty Group, reporting Oct. 19, puts Monument's median list price near $797,000 at about $242 per square foot. Movoto's October snapshot lists a median list price around $769,000 and an average near $774,000, down about 2% year over year, with roughly 562 homes for sale in Monument. In ZIP 80132, the median sold price was about $779,100 in September, down 1.6% from $791,800 a year earlier, while the number of homes for sale jumped about 58% year over year to roughly 1,067, per RealtyTrac. Zillow puts the 80132 average home value around $753,563, down about 1.2% year over year, with homes going under contract in about 22 days.

Woodmoor proper carries different numbers depending on the source and the measurement window. Redfin shows a Woodmoor median sale price of about $730,652 in September, down 11.4% year over year, while Great Colorado Homes counts 74 Woodmoor listings at a median list price near $861,695. The common thread: more choice for buyers than a year ago, prices roughly flat to down across the area, and stretched days on market compared with the 2022-2023 peak. For context, 830 Lake Woodmoor is listed at $975,000 after a price improvement from $997,000, an example of the value available at Woodmoor's upper end.
