Mark Your Calendar: The Rest of October

October is winding down and Monument's community calendar is still full. The Monument Cemetery Walk returns Saturday, Oct. 24, a history-focused walking event hosted by the Town of Monument, per the town's community events page. Families have two more weekends of fall fun at the Colorado Pumpkin Patch at Colorado Kids Ranch (2205 E. Highway 105), open through Oct. 31 with hayrides, a petting zoo, and pumpkins. And Safe Trick or Treat returns Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. along 2nd Street, Limbach Park, and the downtown shops, a free community favorite organized by Downtown Monument Businesses and the Tri-Lakes Chamber, per The Gazette.

Also on the calendar: Next Stop Comedy performs at Goat Patch Brewing Monument on Friday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m.; the Tri-Lakes Community & Business Expo, presented by the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce, takes over the Tri-Lakes YMCA on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Tri-Lakes Cares wrapped its annual Empty Bowls dinner and silent auction Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Lewis-Palmer High School, supporting local food programs. The full calendar lives on townofmonument.org and woodmoor.org.

Town of Monument: The Home Stretch to Nov. 3

Monument's municipal election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, coordinated with El Paso County, and ballots are on their way to voters. The mayoral race pairs Laura Kronick against Kenneth Kimple; Dan DeBoo runs for the District 1 seat, Marco P. Fiorito for District 2, and Alex Valderrama and Scott Gilson compete for the at-large seat, per the town's elections page. Also on the ballot is the use-tax measure that would raise the tax on construction and building materials from 2% to 3.5%, projected to generate about $2.27 million a year for stormwater, streets, bridges, and sidewalks; it does not affect sales tax, per Colorado Politics. Check the town's elections page for drop-off and polling details before Nov. 3.

The Town Council holds its next regular meeting Monday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m., the first since hearing the draft 2027 budget at its Oct. 5 session, per The Monument Independent. Agendas and minutes are posted on townofmonument.org. Travelers should also note that the northbound I-25 lane reduction through Monument, in place Oct. 9 to 12 for bridge work, has wrapped up and the Higby Road improvement project has ended, per local coverage.

Lewis-Palmer D38: A New HSEA Building and a Local Food Grant

Lewis-Palmer District 38 opens its new Home School Enrichment Academy (HSEA) building this month, adjacent to the district administration building at 146 N. Jefferson St., adding classrooms and a multi-purpose room for the district's home-school students. The district also used its first local food grant to buy Colorado produce, benefiting Monument Academy's school meal program, as reported by The Monument Independent on Oct. 2.

D38 fifth-graders were launching rockets in mid-October as part of the district's hands-on science programming, per Our Community News. The Board of Education holds its regular meeting Monday, Oct. 19, and at an Oct. 6 work session the board weighed a potential partnership with Williamsburg Academy, a Colorado online school, per the meeting record. Board agendas and dates are posted on lewispalmer.org.

Around Woodmoor: Board Business, Fiber, and Fall Traditions

At its Sept. 23 meeting, the Woodmoor Improvement Association declined an open-space offer tied to the Northbay development at the north end of Lake Woodmoor, updated its Project Design Standards Manual, and heard an update on Force Broadband's fiber-optic build-out through the community's open spaces, per Our Community News. After conduit work in South Woodmoor this summer, the provider is working to bring fiber to residents.

The WIA's monthly newsletter and resident events calendar live at woodmoor.org/events, including programming at the Woodmoor Barn Community Center at 1691 Woodmoor Dr. And as Thanksgiving approaches, the Woodmoor South Turkey Trot remains a neighborhood tradition, with turkeys typically making their rounds in the neighborhood ahead of the holiday, per Our Community News.

Fall on the Trails and Around Town

Mid-October is peak color season in Woodmoor, and the trails are at their best. The Santa Fe Trailhead at 3rd Street offers parking and picnic tables with direct access to the Santa Fe Trail, and the Monument Preserve on Schilling Avenue threads trails through ponderosa pine forest. The roughly 17.9-mile New Santa Fe Regional Trail runs from Greenland Open Space near Larkspur to the Edmondson Trailhead in Colorado Springs, and Fox Run Regional Park's trails around Aspen Lake are a short drive away.

Close to home, Goat Patch Brewing Monument at 1756 Lake Woodmoor Drive remains the neighborhood gathering spot, joined by Wesley Owens Coffee at 1744 Lake Woodmoor Drive, Coffee Cup Cafe at 251 Front Street, and Arlene's Beans at 366 2nd Street downtown. For dinner, La Casa Fiesta at 230 Front Street, The Bistro on 2nd at 65 2nd Street, Rosie's Diner at 411 CO-105, and Papa Bear Pizza at 243 Washington Street round out the local lineup.

Monument Market Snapshot: Mid-October 2026

Movoto's October snapshot lists a median list price around $769,000 and an average list price near $774,000, down about 2% year over year, with roughly 562 homes for sale in Monument. The ZIP 80132 median sold price was about $779,100 in September, down 1.6% from $791,800 a year earlier, per RealtyTrac, while Orchard's 30-day median sale price in 80132 is $765,000, up 5.6% year over year. Zillow puts Monument's average home value around $758,943, roughly 1% below a year ago, with homes going under contract in about 21 days.
